A father who helped raise and manage one of America's most famous families in the entertainment industry, Joseph "Joe" Jackson, has been reported to have died at age 89 in a Las Vegas hospital.

The estate of his son Michael Jackson (who died in 2009) issued a statement confirming his death, according to CBC News.

The cause of death has not been released although several news outlets, including Variety, reported that he had been in the final stages of terminal cancer.

Jackson was the father and manager to his children who became some of the most successful international pop stars and celebrities, including the Jackson 5 (formed in the 1960s), Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson.

Joseph married his wife Katherine in 1949 and they had 10 children: Maureen "Rebbie", Sigmund "Jackie", Toriano "Tito", Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Michael, Steven Randall "Randy", and Janet.

La Toya expressed her sentiments about her father's death on social media.
