Kings of Leon announce Vancouver concert for “Can We Please Have Fun”

Kings of Leon will play Vancouver this summer in support of Can We Please Have Fun, the band’s ninth full-length and first with Capitol Records. As part of a 26-date North American tour, the four-piece hits Rogers Arena on August 31, with tickets going on sale March 1.

Formed by brothers Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, and Nathan Followill—with cousin Matthew Followill rounds out the lineup—Kings of Leon first rose to prominence as part of an early 2000s southern-rock garage revival that also gave us the likes of the Drive-By Truckers.

The Followill clan describes Can We Please Have Fun as a record that takes the band back to the days when it was loading into a tour van and playing clubs like Vancouver’s Richard’s on Richards. At the same time, Kings of Leon embraces the idea that it’s the job of all artists to move things forward artistically.

“It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb says in a statement, referring to Can We Please Have Fun. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable.”

The album’s first single is the psych-tinted ragged and jagged guitar rocker “Mustang”, which sounds a little like Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the 13th Floor Elevators, and, above all, Kings of Leon. Check it out below.
