Inarguably the most famous still-active band on the planet, the Rolling Stones will return to Vancouver next summer. Core surviving members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood have announced a July 5 show at BC Place as part of the ’24 Hackney Diamonds Tour—the only Canadian stop currently on the list.

Formed in 1962, and responsible for some of rock’s most iconic songs— “Satisfaction”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Start Me Up”, “Miss You”—the Stones are back on the road in support of the new album Hackney Diamonds. The band’s 31st studio full-length, the record is the first release of original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. Proving the Stones still have something to say, Hackney Diamond’s first single, “Anger”, has been nominated for a Grammy.

On past world tours, the Rolling Stones have been known to sandwich in appearances at small clubs, including famously the El Mocambo on more than one occasion in Toronto. The band recently played the 650-capacity Racket in NYC to celebrate the release of Hackney Diamonds

So, start praying to the ghosts of Saint Charlie Watts and Brian Jones that Vancouver will also include a quick one-off at the Commodore, Rickshaw, or Grand Union Hotel.

As for BC Place, you’ll know there truly is a God if she helps ensure the set includes not only “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Street Fighting Man”, but also “Before They Make Me Run” and “Far Away Eyes”—complete with the pedal steel flourishes.

Tickets for the show go on sale December 1 at 10am.
