The new year in Vancouver had a tragic start after man was killed during a fight in the Downtown Eastside on New Year’s Day.

After an ongoing investigation since that time, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced today (March 4) that officers arrested 50-year-old Glen Domenic Martin of Vancouver on February 27 for the homicide of 62-year-old Jesus Cristobal-Esteban.

On January 1, Cristobal-Esteban had sustained a serious head injury during an altercation near a basketball court in Oppenheimer Park, which he visited regularly. He was taken to hospital, where he died on January 2.
