Pierre Poilievre rallies and the prevalence of Long COVID

Two things crossed my mind this morning as I scanned my Twitter feed.

The first was that Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre attracted an enormous crowd at a rally in Vancouver.

The second thing I thought about was the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron.

The images above made me wonder whether anyone in this maskless crowd knew anything about research into airborne transmission of COVID-19 and the prevalence of Long COVID among those who get infected.

The latest dataset from the U.K. government includes disturbing information about ongoing symptoms from COVID-19.

It shows that 2.7 percent of the British population has Long COVID, according to clinical epidemiologist Dr. Deepti Gurdasani. You can see her tweets below.

Had the provincial government not lifted its indoor mask mandate, local Poilievre fanatics would have been at a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 and going on to develop Long COVID.

Thankfully, B.C. has so many dedicated health-care workers. Let's hope that enough of them remain on the job to deal with what's to come as a result of the province's decision.
