Lower Mainland hobby bakers, this is your moment.

CBC TV’s wholesome (in the best way) competition series The Great Canadian Baking Show is holding an open casting call in Vancouver on February 11.

The show, modelled after The Great British Bake Off, sees 10 amateur bakers from across the country battle it out over a variety of challenges—everything from French classics to breads to personality-forward cakes. It’s sugary comfort viewing at its absolute best (so much so, in fact, that Seth Rogen and CBC are trying to recreate the magic for ceramics).

It’s free to attend the casting call, though you’ll need to register at the link below. You’ll also, of course, need to bring something you baked yourself. Here’s what the event listing instructs: “Bring one baked item to impress our team with your design, flavours, and technique. Show us what makes you special through the sweet or savoury baked item you choose to bring.”

One of the show’s judges, Bruno Feldeisen, lives in Port Moody when he’s not filming the show in Ontario. Reached via phone last year, he told us he thinks people want to be on the show—which culminates in little more than a decorative cake plate and bragging rights for the winner—is about so much more than glory.

“You bake to share, to give, to celebrate,” he said. “The act of baking leads somewhere else. It’s human connection. I think people want to be on the show because they want to give something—they want to give knowledge, they want to give story.”
