      Another Christmas is in the rear-view mirror, which means that many Vancouverites are thinking about how to get rid of the tree in their living room.

      Thankfully, the City of Vancouver is offering several free options in early 2020.

      From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (January 4) and Sunday (January 5), people can bring their trees to four different locations where they'll be chipped and composted.

      The Lions Club Tree Chipping for Charity organizers encourage people to donate cash and nonperishable food items, which will be given to charities.

      This will take place at four locations:

      * Sunset Beach upper parking lot (Beach Avenue and Broughton Street);

      * Trout Lake Community Centre parking lot (3360 Victoria Drive);

      * Kerrisdale Community Ice Rink parking lot (5670 East Boulevard);

      * and Kitsilano Beach parking lot (Cornwall Avenue and Arbutus Street).

      In addition, people can drop their Christmas trees off for free at the Vancouver South Transfer Station (377 West Kent Avenue North) or the Vancouver Landfill (5400 72nd Street, Delta).

      There's also curbside residential collection. Trees will be picked up on the January 11 and 12 weekend from homes with city green bin service.

      The city asks that all decorations and tinsel be removed and the tree be laid on its side before 7 a.m. on January 11.
