Vancouver’s beloved Kits Pool is set to reopen on Victoria Day Long Weekend—depending on the weather—says the Vancouver Park Board.

Monday’s (April 8) Vancouver Park Board meeting heard that the pool should be up and running again soon, despite a staff report revealing that it has been leaking 30,000 litres of water per hour.

Last year, the pool opened in June (which was late in the season) after work to repair a series of broken pipes. Despite its numerous problems, it hosted more than 120,000 swimmers in 2023.

At 137 metres, Kits Pool is the longest saltwater pool in North America. Opened in 1931, the near-century-old pool has seen one redesign and millions of dollars in repairs over the years. The future of the pool beyond 2024 is still uncertain, as the City says it will need $2 million to execute a “feasibility study.”

For now, the iconic pool splashes on.
