Award-winning psychological thriller In Flames will open its Vancouver run at Cineplex International Village on April 19. A special Q&A with the film’s director Zarrar Kahn and actors Ramesha Nawal and Bakhtawar Mazhar will take place alongside the evening screening.

The Pakistan-set psycho thriller, an official entry for Best International Feature Film for the 2024 Oscars, touches on the dynamics of control and patriarchy. The story follows Mariam, who lives with her brother and mother, in the aftermath of her grandfather’s death; secret romances and nightmarish battles for property ensue.

The film, in Urdu with English subtitles, stars Nawal and Mazhar, as well as Omar Javaid, Adnan Shah Tipu, Mohammad Ali Hashmi, and Jibran Khan. The post-screening Q&A is being hosted by Zara Durrani.
