Me First and the Gimme Gimmes play Vancouver tonight, and maybe they'll do the Carpenters' "Superstar"

Vancouver punk-rock fans looking for a good time tonight (September 22) should be aware that Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are playing at the Harbour Events Centre.

In case you didn't know about the Gimmes, they might be the most incredible cover band of all time.

And they're a punk-rock supergroup to boot, featuring as they do lead vocalist Spike Slawson (Swingin' Utters, Re-Volts), bassist-vocalist Fat Mike (NOFX), guitarist-vocalist Joey Cape (Lagwagon), and drummer Dave Raun (Lagwagon and RKL).

To get an idea of what they sound like, here's their version of Delaney & Bonnie's "Superstar", off their classic 2004 live album, Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah.

I mean, that's so much better than the way the Carpenters did it, am I right?

Opening acts for tonight's Me First and the Gimme Gimmes show, which kicks off at 8 p.m., are local faves Russian Tim and Pavel Bures and the Highsides.

Ticket prices range from $36.13 to $46.89 and you can find them here.
