A male motorcyclist who injured a police officer in a hit-and-run back in February has been identified and charged.

In February 9, RCMP officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 1 west of Westview in North Vancouver.

Around 2:50 p.m., police flagged down a black sport motorcycle. Although the motorcyclist stopped, he then accelerated and knocked an officer to the ground as he took off westbound on the highway.

The officer, who is not being identified by police, was taken to hospital and North Vancouver RCMP initially stated that he had minor injuries.

However, North Vancouver RCMP stated in a news release issued today (May 16) that he suffered a traumatic brain injury.

North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson Cst. Peter DeVries said that after the detachment asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, several witnesses provided information.

On May 10, 27-year-old Mark Daniel Webber of North Vancouver was charged with obstructing a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He will next appear in court on May 29.
