Motorists should avoid and eastbound section of Highway 1 in West Vancouver.

In a tweet, West Vancouver police say there was a major collision between Cypress and 22nd Street.

No details have been released as of this writing.

Cpl. Dave Noon of the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service stated that there is no estimate for when the highway will reopen.

Vancouver journalist and author Adriana Barton tweeted that a "van was roaring full speed in the wrong lane on Hwy 1 near Taylor Way".

She credited her husband with saving both their lives by swerving at the last minute.

Sadly, the car behind her was hit and flew through the air. Barton stated that she feels devastated for the people who were in that vehicle.

"No idea why this happened, or what motivated the driver of that van," Barton wrote. "no warning honks, no slowing down. Unthinkable."

She also stated that her son "narrowly missed being orphaned".

      Update

West Vancouver police says a woman in her 20s was driving a motorhome on the wrong way down the highway before it collided head-on with another vehicle. Six people were sent to hospital, including two in critical condition.
