It won't be quite as easy travelling from North Surrey to New Westminster for part of this weekend.

That's because northbound traffic will be shut down on the Pattullo Bridge from 10 p.m. on Friday (June 24) until 5 a.m. on Saturday (June 25).

The shutdown is to ensure that work on the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project can continue safely.

The old bridge, which opened in 1936, will remain open, however, for cyclists and pedestrians travelling in both directions, as well as for first responders.

Southbound motorists coming from McBride Boulevard will take a detour to the Columbia Street on-ramp. The Royal Street on-ramp will stay open.

"Pattullo Bridge users travelling to New Westminster are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges," TransLink says in a news release. "Northbound N19 NightBus trips will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges during the closures. Affected customers should plan for an additional 30 minutes of travel time."
