Legendary Vancouver saxophonist and flutist Tom Keenlyside will perform a night of Dave Brubeck in New Westminster tomorrow (September 27).

Keenlyside--who has performed and/or recorded with everyone from Mel Tormé to Aerosmith, from Dizzy Gillespie to Blue Öyster Cult, and from Harry Connick to Motley Crüe--will perform at the Anvil Theatre in the first show of the Jazz at the Anvil concert series.

Keenlyside's set will feature music from the Dave Brubeck Quartet's 1959 album, Time Out.

"The music of Dave Brubeck has had an enormous impact on my life," says Keenlyside in the show's promotional material. "Time Out was one of my first exposures to jazz, and its rich complexity, plus the pure poetry of Paul Desmond’s saxophone helped lure me into my lifelong journey in music.

"Dave’s constant explorations of the jazz firmament have been, in so many different ways, inspiring to me," he adds. "Time Out remains an American musical masterpiece."

Upcoming Jazz at the Anvil shows include A Night of Oscar Petersen (with Miles Black, November 29), A Night in Rio (with Keenlyside again, January 24, 2023), and A Night in New Orleans (with Doc Fingers, March 21, 2023).
