Keithmas lets you ring in the season, Keith Richards-style

Though he’s been generously dealing out rock hits for years, Keith Richards might not be the first person you think of during the charitable holiday season. Local show promoters John Hewer and James Hayden of Hidden Charms hope that will change with an upcoming event toasting the guitarist’s birthday. Hewer is calling the night—taking place Saturday (December 18) at the Fairview PubKeithmas. “We’re having a party,” he told the Straight, “to celebrate his birthday, the holidays, and we’re going to raise a bunch of money for the food bank.”

While you might ache for a Christmas hit like Burl Ives’s “Silver and Gold”, you’re more likely to get “You Got the Silver”, with local acts like No Horses and War Baby playing nothing but Stones covers. “We’ve got an amazing lineup of songs, obviously. When you’re talking about the Stones, you can go 40 years plus of recorded material. Oddly enough, most of it is from ’72 and under.” Admission is $5 with a nonperishable-food donation. All proceeds go to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
