Queer Arts Festival announces this year’s programming
The Queer Arts Festival (QAF) is returning for its 17th year and has just announced its lineup for the entire month of June.
This year’s programming is titled The Ties That Bind, focusing on performances that analyze the bonds and complexities of familial ties—whether they be your birth or chosen family. For queer folks, “family” can often be a tender topic, and the festival program highlights how traditional family constructs can stifle queer joy (or worse, queer existence). The lineup also includes a trio of events in partnership with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, celebrating queer excellence in music.
“From collectives to choirs, from drag houses to dance troupes, from our community art show to the many partnerships we enjoy year after year, QAF 2024 examines the many ways in which ‘family’ manifests itself in Queer and Queer-arts communities,” shares QAF artistic director Mark Takeshi McGregor in a release.
