Move over, Gastown and Little Ginza; shopping in downtown Vancouver is about to get even more vibrant.

Junction Public Market is opening on June 28, promising to bring food, drink, music, and merchants together in one place. It’s located at Granville Square—the plaza up the stairs from Waterfront Station—with a scenic view of the North Shore and any docked cruise ships next to the Convention Centre.

Fittingly for a city with the largest port in Canada, the market will comprise of customized shipping containers—helpfully referred to as things like “The Sipping Container” and “The Music Box”.

“Junction Public Market enjoys sweeping vistas of where the mountains and the ocean meet, overlooking the Port of Vancouver,” says Patrick Carnegie, co-founder of Junction Public Market, in a press release. “This is the perfect spot for us to create a destination, like a piazza, where everyone comes to meet, shop, and enjoy a taste of Vancouver.”

The market is organized by Junction Event Partners, in partnership with Cadillac Fairview property developers—which happens to own 200 Granville, the tower attached to the Granville Square plaza. The market is also partnering with United We Can, a Downtown Eastside-founded empties recycling program that supports locals.

Weekly music will play on a special container fitted with a flip-down platform, with performances beginning the Canada Day weekend.

Confirmed vendors include Puccissimé Pet Couture, Soumak Boutique, Lumbo & Elfin Atelier, iThinkSew, PacifiCraft Candles, Kedi Silver, Living Lotus Chocolate, Bennu Leather, and All the Good Things From BC, while food stalls include Yo Bones BBQ, Focacciaza, Bao Buns, Mr. Pretzel, Tochi, Spanish Cravings, Barista Brothers, and The Seaside Ice Box.

And yes—like any good Vancouver market, Tornado Potato will indeed be there, too.
