Bollywood stars, international film industries, and fans around the world are paying tribute to and mourning the loss of one of Indian cinema’s most acclaimed talents.

Actor Irrfan Khan, who had been in intensive care in Mumbai with a colon infection, has died today (April 29) at the age of 53.

Khan had revealed in 2018 that he had a rare cancer—a neuroendocrine tumour—and had undergone treatment in London, England.

With a career spanning over three decades, Khan starred in numerous Hindi-language films, including The Warrior, Haasil, Maqbool, Paan Singh Tomar, and The Lunchbox.

Crossing over to Hollywood and international productions, he starred in roles in box-office hits, critically acclaimed films, and blockbusters like The Namesake, The Amazing Spider-Man, Slumdog Millionaire, Jurassic World, and Ang Lee’s cinematic adaptation of Canadian author Yann Martel’s novel The Life of Pi
