Mark your calendars for banner another year of music at Deer Lake Park as the Burnaby Blues + Root Festival unveils the lineup for its free-to-attend event.

Stepping into the spotlight is Mavis Staples, a Grammy winner and civil rights activist. She gained fame as a member of her family's gospel group, the Staple Singers, a musical powerhouse during the American civil rights movement. Staples' solo career has seen her collaborate with music legends Aretha Franklin and Prince, and she has been honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

“We’re thrilled to be welcoming another legendary performer, Mavis Staples, to the Burnaby Blues + Roots stage for 2024, along with so many other talented musicians,” shares Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley in a release. “And we’re proud to once again be offering free admission, providing everyone with the opportunity to see an incredible festival in one of the most beautiful concert venues in BC.”

Other performers include The Suffers, Crystal Shawanda, and The Della Kit, with food trucks, a beer garden, and community booths adding to the full day of fun.
