While the B.C. overdose crisis continues on, an RCMP drug investigation in Burnaby has resulted in several arrests and the seizure of drugs and weapons, including opioids.

Burnaby RCMP stated in a news release on November 1 that drug-section investigators have been conducting a six-month investigation into a drug-trafficking network.

On October 30, officers used search warrants at residences in Burnaby and Maple Ridge.

RCMP seized several ounces of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, in addition to a semi-automatic assault rifle, several replica handguns, and about $20,000 in cash.

Officers arrested three individuals for several offences, including trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and a number of weapons charges.

“The public safety risks associated to this type of criminal activity cannot be overstated,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Daniela Panesar stated in a news release. “The seizure of these firearms has significantly increased the safety of the public and all law enforcement that work tirelessly to disrupt the illegal drug trade and stem the associated violence. Of particular concern was how authentic the replica handguns appeared to investigators and how it was difficult to tell that they were actually fake until closely examined.”

Burnaby RCMP are reminding citizens that reports of suspicious activity to local police or anonymously through Crime Stoppers contribute to these types of investigations.
