As a search for a 29-year-old man from Squamish continues on, Squamish RCMP released further details today (January 15) in the hopes of generating more leads.

Squamish RCMP received a report at 4:15 p.m. on January 7 that a family member who had checked in Daniel Reoch found that he was unreachable and that he had not been seen since before Christmas.

After police conducted several checks, officers were unable to locate him and he was classified as a missing person.

Squamish RCMP has worked with Squamish Nations, the Integrated First Nations Unit, the B.C. Police Missing Person Centre, and Squamish Search and Rescue in trying to determine his whereabouts.

Police and Squamish Search and Rescue have conducted searches in the Squamish Valley and Paradise Valley areas.

Squamish RCMP stated in a news release today (January 15) that he was last seen at 1 a.m. on November 26 on the porch of a family member’s property in the 6500 block of Squamish Valley Road before he walked off on a trail that led to Lewis Drive.

He was last seen wearing a blue, brown, and tan plaid button-up long-sleeved shirt; a blue, black, and beige button-up long-sleeved shirt; dark-coloured suspenders; black baggy pants; and black shoes with white trim around the soles (with a black shoelace on the right foot and a white shoelace on the left foot).

Prior to his disappearance, Reoch had a series of interactions with police.

Squamish RCMP took him into custody at 10 a.m. on November 25 but was later released at 5 p.m. the same day.

Police had located and seized his vehicle, a black 2004 Honda Civic with B.C. license plate JL933R, at 2:20 p.m. on November 26 when it was reported abandoned in the area.

He had been seen at Tim Hortons (on Progress Way and in the Cheakamus area) and Walmart in Squamish.

Squamish RCMP Sgt. Jeff Shore stated in a news release that there isn’t any evidence of foul play at this stage.

Due to their interactions with Roech on November 25, Squamish RCMP have contacted the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO BC) to ensure a transparent investigation.

“Our Lewis Family, the Squamish Nation, and the community as a whole are extremely concerned as to the whereabouts of Daniel Reoch,” Deanna Lewis, a family and Squamish Nations representative, stated in a news release. “It is extremely out of character for him not to check in with family, friends, or his children.”

Reoch is described as an Indigenous male who is 175 centimetres (five-feet, nine-inches) and weighs 68 kilograms (150 pounds). He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about Reoch is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or your local police, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
