On National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), Carnegie Community Centre is hosting a street party honouring the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples—and all are encouraged to attend.

From 10am to 7pm between East Hastings and East Pender, Main Street will be the site of a celebration of Indigenous heritage and tradition. The street party will also offer a moment to reflect on the many challenges that the Indigenous community has overcome, as well as its profound impact on the past, present, and future of Vancouver.

“I’m so proud to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with Carnegie Community Centre for the second year in a row. Last year’s event was nothing short of inspiring, spanning an entire city block, honouring the rich vibrancy of Indigenous art, music, and dance,” shares Mayor Ken Sim in a statement. “Learning about and embracing Indigenous culture is critical as we continue our journey of Reconciliation in Vancouver’s 10th year as a City of Reconciliation. As we look to the future, it's important that we continue to address inequities, advance Reconciliation, and find ways to celebrate and showcase Indigenous culture.”

The following artists will be giving performances throughout the day:

      • J.B. The First Lady
      • Red Trail Singers & Dancers
      • Mannix
      • Haida Dance Group
      • Michael Edward Nardachioni
      • DJ. Angle
      • Ember Sparxx
      • Carnegie’s lexwst’i:lem Drum group
      • TALON
      • Zofia Rose

Festivities will also include traditional Indigenous crafts and smudging, and communal organization tables to educate and inform Vancouverites about how to be better allies and advocates for the DTES and urban Indigenous communities.
